Check out this sweet picture that Amanda Palmer instagrammed! She received her ukes!!!
This month has been a whirlwind of uke builds here at the Five Points workshop. Starting with these two beauties custom built for rock star, performance artist, author Amanda Palmer. The first is a “traditional” soprano uke with a volume control, piezo pickup and Aquila nylgut strings. The beach decor was taken from the inside of an Arturo Fuente Opus X box.
Next is a punk rock screamer made from a Rocky Patel 7Year box I painted with a retro art deco design. This little beast has steel strings, a piezo under the bridge for a tight, gentle sound, and a mini hum bucker in the neck position for a thick, rumbling, punk rock uke tones. You know, for when you want to shred on a soprano ukulele. It also has a three way selector switch along with volume and tone knobs for a variety of sounds.
The pulp playing card was designed by NYC artist/actress/washtub bass player/my lovely wife Jessi Blue Gormezano. It says:
“Your underwear too,” she said.
“I haven’t got any on,” he replied, feeling four years old.
She took a step closer to him.
“How unsanitary.”
Next are a couple of commissioned soprano ukes in my “Pepper” Altoid Uke series.
Finally, to finish off uke month, we have Magnifico, a soprano uke made from a Davidoff Magnifico box, and L’il Papa, a tenor uke made from a beautiful My Father’s Cigars box. Both have electronics, of course, and L’il Papa has a volume control.
