Welcome to 2014! For the first post of this year I would like to share two new creations, built for my good friend Emily Skinner here in New York City. The first is one I like to call The King. It was built from an Arturo Fuente King Tubos box. Special features include a piezo pickup with volume control, maple neck, gold corners, and a special piece of poetic wisdom wood burnt into the back of the neck which simply states, “It could be worse, you could be in a Turkish Prison.”
The second specialty 6-string is Amor, or the Lover. This one was built from a lovely La Aroma De Cuba, Mi Amor Magnifico box and features a piezo pickup AND a Dragonfire H90 (P90 shaped like a humbucker) in the neck position with a three direction switch to create a wide range of tone. The gold volume and tone knobs are located on the top edge of the box to save face space. The new owner of this guitar is a jazz player, so flat wound strings were of course a must. Custom engraving in the neck is a line from John Mellencamp, “I’ve got more hide than you’ve got teeth.”
